When Executive Express Owner Larry Logeman needed assistance finding a new site and creating a centralized headquarters for the booming transportation business, he called David Leapaldt at IIW Minnesota.
The business had been growing rapidly over the past five years. With over 120 employees and 45 vehicles transporting passengers, namely to and from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, Executive Express had outgrown its home and the use of the Holiday Inn as a departure and arrival point.
Logeman imagined a centralized location where the business could continue to show its commitment to convenience and the customer experience. A 15-acre site in Waite Park proved to be a natural fit. It included a 10,000-square-foot maintenance garage, and 1,700-square-foot of existing office space as well as some other buildings. Standing alongside Logeman, Leapaldt shared how a new arrival and departure lounge could fit into the site design as well as a logical place for buses to pick up and drop off.
Working alongside Logeman and the Executive Express staff, IIW Minnesota designed a 2,700-square-foot arrival and departure lounge and protected bus parking. The design also included additional customer and staff parking, and roadways to accommodate the bus and vehicle traffic.
With a focus on customer convenience, IIW designed a simple and intuitive access from the parking area to the departure lounge and check-in area. Walking inside to the waiting and lounge areas, customers are met with high ceilings and an abundance of glass for natural light.
Customers can easily move from the lounge to step aboard for a ride and remain comfortable even in inclement weather.
The existing office space has been repurposed to house all of the Executive Express administrative and support functions, as well as break areas for the drivers and other staff. The maintenance building has been upgraded to support the maintenance of the Executive Express fleet, and the exterior painted to improve the overall appearance of the building.
“Larry had a strong vision for what he wanted both Executive Express customers and his staff to experience,” Leapaldt said. “It’s rewarding to working alongside the team to turn that vision into spaces and then see it being experienced.”
